British Gas free insulation
British Gas is working with Mencap to provide free loft and cavity wall insulation for people who are on eligible benefits (including people with a learning disability who receive eligible benefits).
How will it save me money?
Each year save up to £175 on your energy bills with free loft insulation and up to £135 with free cavity wall insulation.
Insulation locks in heat, so you won’t need to have your heating on as much to stay warm. It’s not just a one-off saving as it will help save money year after year.
What does it involve?
It’s straightforward and takes less than a day to install. Loft insulation is a thick material simply rolled on to the loft floor. Cavity wall insulation is a filling blown in to the gaps between your exterior walls. There’s little fuss or mess so you can get on with your daily routine whilst it is being installed.
How do I get it?
You can phone British Gas on 0800 975 1631* and quote the code ICP0004 and they’ll arrange for a British Gas energy expert to come round to your home and carry out a free no obligation survey. All you have to do is to set aside some time for them to do the work.
Who can qualify for free home insulation?
If you’re aged 70 or over or on one of the following benefits:
- Attendance Allowance
- Child Tax Credit (where the relevant income is £16,190 or less)
- Council Tax Benefit
- Disability Living Allowance
- Disablement Pension (that includes constant attendance allowance)
- Housing Benefit
- Income Support
- Income-based Job Seekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- State Pension Credit
- War Disablement Pension (that includes either a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance)
- Working Tax Credit
