Learning Disabilities Assistant

Full time (35 hours) – £18,727 p.a.

We are seeking a full time Assistant to join our small, busy Learning Disabilities team and contribute to the planning and provision of supportive, fun and stimulating programmes for adults with learning difficulties and/or autism.

About us

KDC (Knowsley Disability Concern) is a well-established charity specialising in services that enable disabled people to have improved choice, control and independence. We are an accredited learning centre delivering programmes and other activities for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism in community settings across Knowsley and neighbouring districts. In response to COVID-19, flexible methods have been introduced including Zoom sessions and distance-learning packs, ensuring participants remain engaged. Projects include the Being Involved Group (BIG Group); New Horizons; Managing my Money and the Stories Reading Group.

The role

You will be responsible for providing day to day support for a variety of projects for adults with learning disabilities.  Tasks will include:

  • Assisting with enrolment processes, helping people identify their goals and aspirations, writing up individual learning plans and measuring and recording progress and achievements
  • Preparing resources, setting up learning sessions and supporting individuals to engage, participate and learn in ‘classroom’ settings
  • Promoting projects and programmes using a variety of methods to increase engagement and participation, including social media
  • Helping organise and deliver social events and activities in the community, supporting people to join in and benefit from taking part

About you

You will have good organisation and administration skills and the ability to respond proactively and sensitively to clients’ needs. Experience of working with people with disabilities and/or additional learning needs is important.

This is a rewarding role and an exciting opportunity for someone with a ‘can-do’ attitude who enjoys applying their personal skills and experience to help develop and deliver new and innovative services that really make a difference.
